Slow Food Columbia is coming back to host the Slow Food event here at Indie Grits for the fifth year! We couldn’t be more excited to eat up. Festival attendees are invited to partake in a massive feast which includes “food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it, and good for the planet”–the goal of the slow food movement.
Chefs from throughout Columbia will prepare a dish that must feature at least one local, sustainable major ingredient. Our chefs get to enjoy some friendly competition while guests enjoy the innovative, quality dishes that result!
This year, guests will enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres by the Midlands’ most sustainable chefs, including those from Terra, Motor Supply Co. Bistro, Rosso Trattoria, Bourbon, Baan Sawan Thai Bistro, Spotted Salamander Catering, Rosewood Market and Deli, Scott Hall Catering, The Oak Table, Whole Foods, Saluda’s, Good Life Café, Our Local Catch, Charleston Cooks!, Jake’s, Tombo Grille and more in a casual setting with lively tunes and a cash bar by The Whig featuring South Carolina-brewed beers and carefully selected wines.
We even invite our dedicated foodies to join our chefs by bringing their own dish for the Slow Food Potluck in exchange for a discounted ticket price. At this ticket level, guests should bring roughly 20 taste portions of a dish made with at least one sustainable, local ingredient. Slow Food Columbia Potlucks are a place where resourcefulness, simplicity and creativity shine! Past Slow Food Potluck favorites include dishes like radish butter, tomato-chocolate truffles, and free-range coq au vin.
This is one of our most popular events, and for good reason! Here’s everything you need to know to be a part of this Indie Grit’s favorite:
