I’m an animator/illustrator/filmmaker living in Charleston, SC. I am a transplant to the south, moving from the Chicago suburbs to Summerville, SC when I was twelve. I draw inspiration for my character animation from looney tunes and disney style hand drawn cartoons. And visually my style is inspired by minimalism, pop art, op art and abstract expressionism. I’ve had an interest in animation and making cartoons since I was very young, and I started making animated films (music videos) when I was in college. Slam Dunk Summer Camp: Volume One is the culmination of about two years’ work. Much of the work in the film is drawn from animated gifs I created for my tumblr, and is presented in a logical, semi chronological order.
This year will be my first year at indie grits, and I am excited to see what other filmmakers in SC are up to. The events I’m looking most forward to are the of Montreal show and the puppet slam.
My film is for anybody who is a fan of the aesthetic of hand drawn animation and experimental video. In this presentation, the images on the screen aren’t driven by plot, but by the visuals themselves. Paired with the minimalist music soundtrack (live), the viewer should walk away having felt they’ve woken up from a dream. This film is recommended for humans who are awake, or think they are.
