Dr. Ambrose Jearld grew up in the 1950s on a North Carolina tobacco farm his family had owned for three generations. Everybody worked hard all summer growing bright leaf tobacco. Like everyone else in the Carolinas who has the means, they took a little time each summer to go to the Grand Strand, to a segregated resort town Atlantic Beach, SC.
