87 Dance Productions is a two person modern dance company comprised of NC School of the Arts Graduates and twin sisters, Cara and Mackenzie Hagan. Most noted for multimedia dance art in collaboration with artists from other genres, it is only natural that the company has made the jump to making works exclusively for film. 'Folding Over Twice' is a look at how the playful steps of little girls become the dance of women.This film achieves a high level of intimacy with the dancer's bodies, while maintaining a feeling of whimsy throughout, capturing moments of both play and introspection by Cara and Mackenzie, and the seven-year-old versions of the women, played by Paige Schwartz and Mariah Maywin. Powerful movement sequences offset subtle phrases and bursts of laughter by all participants, making this short piece a work of art that not only lifts the spirit, but evokes thought and perhaps even memories.
