Philosophy 101 (30 min.)

Austin Grebenc
Friday 3:00 PM at the Nickelodeon Theatre
Alfred, a naïve high school student, struggles to find the mysteries of death’s repercussions.  His parents passed away as he was young, leaving him to be raised by his blind uncle, Cinnil, an ex-marine who fails in providing the guidance and acceptance imperative to a teenage boy, only furthering his frustrations with life.  The bond with his childhood friend, Davie, is dissolving because he will not attempt to reason with him.  Davie’s mother, Ms. Beatrice, the only character that sympathizes with Alfred, is misinterpreted as a flirtatious and provocative woman attempting to comfort Alfred in the wrong ways.  The only true comfort Alfred discovers is found in the words of Socrates, the philosopher assigned to Alfred for his Philosophy 101 class essay.  Alfred begins to believe that death may truly be ‘the greatest of all human blessings.”
