In the Midst of a Movement weaves together the stories of five journalists born and raised in the South. Some white, and some black, most went to work for major news organizations, then returned to the deep South to cover the Civil Rights movement. They faced threats and physical injury, and risked their lives to report to the rest of the nation about the unfair practices of segregation, and the violent methods with which those practices were being enforced.
