Favianna Rodriguez

Favianna Rodriguez is a transnational interdisciplinary artist and cultural organizer. Rodriguez lectures globally on the power of art, cultural organizing and technology to inspire social change, and leads art workshops at schools around the country. In 2009, she co-founded Presente.org, a national online organizing network dedicated to the political empowerment of Latino communities.

Favianna’s art and collaborative projects deal with migration, global politics, economic injustice, patriarchy, and interdependence. Favianna’s mission is to create profound and lasting social change in the world. Rodriguez partners with social movement groups around the world to create art that’s visionary, inspirational, radical and, most importantly, transformational.

Favianna will be giving a keynote speech at the Nickelodeon Theatre to kick off Indie Grits Visiones. Beginning a reception at 6:00, Favianna will present her speech at 7, and will be followed by the premiere of Indie Grits 2017 film block, El Sur. Touching upon the issues most important to her and her work, Favianna’s keynote will serve as the beginning of Visiones, accompanied by the film block most directly relevant to that theme.
